Thursday Gavel Grab Briefs

In these other dispatches about fair and impartial courts:

  • An Illinois judge’s opinion piece in the Newton Illinois Press Mentor argues that syndicated judge TV shows create misconceptions about the judiciary process and behavior by judges in the courtroom.
  • D. C.’s court system, including the D.C. Superior Court and the Court of Appeals, will receive fewer funds from Congress than it requested for the 2013 fiscal year, the Blog of Legal Times reported. D.C. Appeals Court Chief Justice Eric Washington said this will delay “modernization and related safety and efficiency improvements.”
  • County Judge John H. Gasaway III was reprimanded by Tennessee’s Board of Judicial Conduct for refusing to recuse himself from cases argued by lawyers who once worked for his wife, Carrie Gasaway, who is an attorney, according to The Leaf Chronicle.
